CPD Courses available from Equine Podiatry Training Ltd

These are the modular courses which students in Equine Podiatry take as part of their Diploma. They are available to all Full, Associate and Student members for £60 per day and to non members for £80 per day. However, places are limited so if you would like to attend please let us know as soon as possible.

Days 1 & 2 : Equine Anatomy & Physiology (how the whole body works)

Day 3 : The Equine Distal Limb in depth (all theory)

Day 4 : Dissection day – dissect your own cadaver in detail

Day 5 : Conduct a guided research project on cadavers

Description Veterinary disease terminology relating to lameness, how veterinary diagnostics such as x-rays, MRI scans and nerve blocks work and how to interpret them. Working alongside a vet, how to assess gait and spot lameness and how to carry out diagnostics of your own including hoof testers, digital pulse assessment, footfall analysis, etc.

Description Understand how the environment shapes hooves including hoof hydration, infection control and the use of different surfaces for hoof conditioning.   You will also learn about different hoof boots, how to fit them and how to choose the right one for the horse concerned.

Description Chris Powell, training farrier at Moreton Morrell Farriery College will guide you through the philosophy and practical application of farriery, including how remedial farriery is used to treat hoof pathologies. He will then demonstrate how he shoes a horse from scratch – from measuring a length of iron bar to fitting a beautifully crafted shoe. He will also help you to improve your shoe removal techniques.

Description We have now extended this course to 3 days. Ben Hart will teach you about equine psychology and handling enabling you to work safely and effectively with horses and their handlers. You will understand behaviour and training techniques and begin to learn safe trimming positions and holds, including how to teach a young or difficult horse how to pick up its feet, balance on three legs and use a hoof stand safely.

Description A chance to brush up on the latest thinking, tried and tested methods of hoof rehabilitation, using x-rays to balance a laminitic hoof, use of hoof boots and other therapeutic aids, preventative measures and current theories on how the condition is caused. Description Three days of intensive training in advanced anatomy from one of the leading equine anatomists in the world. Helen is senior lecturer in Equine Anatomy at Melbourne University in Australia.   She will update you on her latest hoof research projects, introduces you to the principles of soft tissue tone and how it affects posture, guides you through more thorough dissections of the lower leg and explains her own theories on hoof function.
