I came to equine podiatry when one of my horses started to short stride in shoes. As I did so little road work at the time, my farrier agreed that they didn't really need shoes. So we took the shoes off both my riding horses, Louie and Toby. Louie, apart from a couple of sore days, has never looked back. But Toby really struggled. Same management, same farrier, same living conditions. I decided it must be something to do with the feet! So I read and read and read and decided that KC La Pierre's work made the most sense to me. I travelled seven and a half hours to a lecture in devon given by him and as they say, the rest is history.
My initial plan was to learn enough to take responsibility and care for my own horses feet. But the more I learned, the more I wanted to help other horse owners. Learning about hoof care has been a life changing experience. I now combine my equine podiatry practice with my other work as a health visitor. I love it. It is one of the most rewarding things I have ever done.
