Tracey Brimble
I found Equine Podiatry when my second horse at 10 years old showed early navicular signs. I had previously lost my first horse to front foot lameness at a similar age, she had been treated with joint injections and remedial shoeing but to no avail. Watching her deteriorate with no apparent cure available was excruciating and when my second horse showed the same symptoms at the same age I could not accept that I had been that unlucky twice. There had to be more to this than my vets and farrier were telling me.
I thought logically what were the common denominators? - Horse type - No. One was an English TB, the other ½ Selle Francais, ½ Irish Sports Horse.
- Workload - No. Both were worked fairly, not over jumped, or given extensive concussive work.
- Farrier's Skill - No. (Now that may surprise some) but I believe that the farrier I used has excellent skills.
- That left me with shoes themselves.
After learning about Equine Podiatry, I had my horse's shoes removed for a "break". She became sound so quickly I knew I had done the right thing and the "break" became permanent. 2 years later she has competed in all disciplines without shoes or boots.
I am convinced if I knew what I know now I could have saved the life of my first horse. I am committed to help others to do the same if they are committed to put in the work it takes from an owner to support their shoeless horse.
